I’m a Creative Strategist
I help brands and agencies better understand their audiences, their brands and their role in the wider world.
This helps them define how they can behave and communicate in a way that engages their audience, resonates with culture and ultimately builds equity and value for their brand.
My career can be broken down into several ‘eras’.
Freelance Creative Strategist (since 2017)
The Agency Years (2010-2017)
Starting this era as a Social Strategist at Albion I moved to AKQA as a Community Engagement Strategist, then a couple of roles as a Content Strategist at RKCR/YR and then The Social Practice before ending up at Grey London as a Cultural Strategist. At both Albion & Grey London I got pretty stuck into internal comms and development programmes.
The Internet Years (2007-2010)
Back then the internet was an exciting place and I worked at some start-ups. I was head of marketing at Tipped (which was a proto-Yelp) and a comms strategist at Taptu (which was a search engine for mobile phones - yes that was a thing back then). I also did some QA & community strategy for Bauer Media. I also did a bit of content and community strategy for We Are Social & Iris London.
The Music & Event Years (2001-2007)
Moved to London and interned at Dazed as a Marketing and Events manager. Went and worked for Chris Blackwell at Palm Pictures where I ended up doing marketing, label management and A&R. Ran events for RESFEST across 7 cities in the UK. Spent some time in NY & LA doing programming and partnerships for Epitonic. Then did a bunch of event production and programming for VICE including their festival Tales Of The Jackalope.
The College Years (pre 2001)
I went to university in Bristol to study Law & French but got a bit sidetracked by DJing - ended up dropping out of university and playing records and running club nights full time for a few years.
